Principal's Message
Congratulations to all those students who participated in the School
PTA sponsored Reflections Program. We are all very proud of the extra
time and effort that was demonstrated. Forbes Elementary School had
several reflection entries recognized during an awards program held
recently. We would like to thank Mrs. Kelly Smith who coordinated this
program, and the parents and students who supported it.
We are continuing the implementation of a one-to-one tutoring program
designed by the state of Utah. It is called STAR – Student Tutoring
Achievement for Reading. It is an excellent, prescriptive program in
which an adult works with two struggling readers twice a week for 30
minutes each between 8:15 and 9:15 A.M. or 2:15 and 3:15 P.M. We appreciate
Dr. Cindy Chilcoat who has coordinated the effort with volunteers who
have been trained on the program strategies and are now serving children.
A special thanks to Mrs. Peterson and Mrs. Steele who have returned
to our school as volunteers to help our students find success.
Our Character Education program continues to teach our students many
new skills that will serve them well in their adult lives. During January
we emphasized enthusiastic and positive attitudes. During February
we will focus on honesty. Forbes Patriots will demonstrate honesty
in the following ways: 1. Doing their own work and not borrowing or
copying from others. 2. Telling the truth, even if it is hard. 3. Returning
things they borrow or find. 4. Never taking things that are not theirs,
even if they think they will return them. Keep up the good examples
Patriots!
Our SEP’s will be held for the second time this year on March
11th, (Track 1) and March 13th, (Track 2). It will be beneficial for
teachers to visit individually with parents and students to evaluate
the progress of goals set in the fall, and to review academic progress
for the first half of the school year. Your support and insights are
very helpful in assisting your school personnel facilitate the success
of your children. Between appointment times specialty teachers would
appreciate a visit also. All teachers will be located in their individual
rooms.
We would like to express our appreciation to Mrs. Kelly Smith for a
job well done as PTA president for the first half of this school year.
We appreciate all of her hard work and effort in behalf of the students,
faculty, and staff of our school. We would also like to congratulate
and thank Mrs. Elizabeth Taufer who will finish the remainder of this
school year as they new Forbes Elementary PTA President.
